For the top layer:
Heat 1 cup of water and 1 stick of butter to boiling in a sauce pan. Remove from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla and 1 cup of all purpose flour. Stir quickly until it forms a ball. Set aside to cool.
For the bottom layer:
Stir 1 cup of flour and 2 Tablespoons of powdered sugar together in a med bowl. Cut 1 stick of butter into small pieces and blend into flour mixture with a pastry cutter/blender. Stir in 2 Tablespoons of cold water. Blend with a wooden spoon until it comes together into a ball. Divide into two equal pieces and pat into 3 inch by 12 inch oblongs on prepared cookie sheet. Set aside.
Finish top layer:
Beat 3 eggs, one at a time into cooled mixture. Spread over pastry oblongs, covering them to the edges.
Bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes. When cool, drizzle with confectioners glaze. Cut into strips and serve while fresh.
For confectioners glaze:
Briskly stir together 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 1 Tablespoon water, a small pinch of salt and
a couple drops of vanilla
